I remember waking up the Tuesday after a convention in Phoenix and turning on the TV. When I woke my brother, he said, “You better have a damn good reason.”

I said, “The World Trade Center towers are falling.”

He was up in five seconds flat.

Even though I worked close to Sky Harbor International Airport, I decided to go in. I remember how empty the sky was–I drove along the flight path the planes usually took into the airport, but not even the birds were flying that day.

Every work area had a TV going. I found out later that the security at airports would go up so much, I could no longer meet any incoming people at the gate like I used to, so I’d be the first person they’d see as they came out.

I hope Osama bin Laden is roasting on a long fork in hell.
